Sharon McEntee

Sharon is an AST at The Hathershaw College, Oldham. She has spent 30 years in the profession, beginning her career in Salford and teaching in several schools in Tameside where she worked from being an NQT to the Curriculum Leader of a large Science Faculty. She has spent the last 16 years at The Hathershaw College and has been Head of Science and since 2008 an AST and the school’s NQT Induction Tutor.

She has significant experience of NQT induction in that she has to date successfully mentored over 40 NQTs within the College, many of whom have stayed in the school and now have leadership roles themselves.

In addition, Sharon has made a significant contribution to whole staff CPD within the College and developments in Teaching and Learning. She is also involved in coaching staff individually and links with the Curriculum Leaders of two faculties to support continued further development. Sharon is passionate about continuing to raise standards and leads by example with her results showing year on year that she is an outstanding classroom practitioner.

 

Tracy Banks

I have been a Science teacher for 19 years and have worked in several schools in Oldham. In this time as well as being a main scale teacher I have held various roles and responsibilities. My first TLR was for a mixed pastoral and academic role. This was as the KS3 Coordinator at Breeze Hill School. This encompassed taking pastoral care for Y8 & 9 but also raising achievement at this Key Stage. From there I then went on to take the equivalent role at KS4. This then led to a role on the SLT, I was still responsible for KS4 but also for the use of data whole school. Breeze Hill then merged with Counthill School to form Waterhead Academy. My role in the academy was as Assistant Principle with responsibility for AR&R. After leaving the academy I worked for two terms at North Chadderton school and then moved onto my current school which is Blessed John Henry Newman Roman Catholic College. In my first term at Newman I was appointed as the KS4 Intervention Coordinator, then at the end of this year I was appointed as the Assistant Director of Learning for KS4, this is also my current role. Some of my responsibilities are tracking and monitoring progress in Year 10 & 11, developing the KS4 Science curriculum & planning, developing & delivering Intervention to help narrow gaps.

Khera Missen Elliott

Khera is a teacher of RE and Sociology. She has a background in youth work, before entering teaching six years ago. She is Induction Coordinator at Blessed John Henry Newman Catholic College.

She trained as an RE teacher at Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, where she was Head of RE and Liturgy Coordinator.

Khera has experience of using technology and research to inform the design of teacher education, taking trainees and newly qualified staff through a transparent, thorough and sustainable process. This draws on the experience of a wide range of colleagues in delivery and provides mentors and leaders with support and further intelligence for faculty monitoring. Every NQT undertakes a Lesson Study project and delivers to SLT, impacting on whole school teaching and learning. She has designed and delivered CPD allowing staff new to the community to be immersed in the ethos of the school.

She attends Teach Meets and unconferences such as #WomenEd, BaMEed, ResearchEd and Northern Rocks to collaborate with other practitioners to reinvigorate and inspire her own practice and inform the direction of support for new staff. She is currently doing some small-scale research into the impact of parental involvement on student progress.

She has varied experiences drawn from her work in youth and community, including anti-oppressive practice, large scale events, centre management and working with young people at risk of exclusion/ offending.

 

Victoria Skinkis

I have been teaching for 17 years, have worked in 3 different schools in Oldham and currently work 3 days a weak teaching science at Blessed John Henry Newman RC College. I became a Head of Science 10 years ago and then 6 years ago led the merger of two science departments and became Director of Learning for science. I have led curriculum change several times, re-written curriculum at KS3 & 4 and introduced new assessment materials and feedback procedures.

I have been a part of whole school subject reviews involving external partners and have worked collaboratively with other schools. I have extensive experience in lesson observation for teaching and learning; coaching & mentoring; managing change; quality assurance and staff development.

I am passionate about teaching and hope that every child has the opportunity to experience success during their academic career. It is always a privilege to be able to visit other schools and work with other teachers and I look forward to being able to do this within the Northern Alliance network.

 

 

Jane Hughes SLE Art

I am a committed and passionate teacher of Art, and have led the Art department at Blessed John Henry Newman RC College over the past three years leading on the development of our curriculum and introducing new assessment and feedback structures. We take pride in the numbers of students opting for Art and results reflect a strong and well taught curriculum, which is continuously evolving to meet the needs of all students.

I am an experienced middle leader with previous roles including Subject Leader of KS3 Creative Arts and Family Year Leader these roles have allowed me to support, coach and develop colleagues in their professional development, and believe that collaboration is key to building upon success.

I look forward to being involved in the ITE program for Art and supporting new teachers across the Northern Alliance.

 

Barry Young, SLE Maths

I started my career in Edinburgh where I taught Maths for 4 years. I moved to London as Assistant Head of Maths and taught at Harris City Technology College. This was later to become Harris Academy Crystal Palace the original school in the successful Federation. I have been at Hollingworth for 11 years and in that time I have been promoted to Head of Maths, Assistant Headteacher and currently Director of Maths. Last year the department achieved 88% for expected levels of progress which was in the top 3% of the country. In the last 3 years we have totally rewritten the curriculum, introduced a new assessment structure and are currently working on targeted homework. I currently steer the Head of Maths Hub for Rochdale.  I would look forward to working with your Maths department to help improve life chances for your pupils.

 

Graham Birrell SLE

I am currently Head of Year 9 at North Chadderton School in Oldham.   For the past three years I have led the development of systems to improve tracking and intervention systems at KS3 in order to avoid having to ‘firefight’ at KS4.  In response to Ofsted’s Wasted Years (2015) publication and the Progress 8 accountability framework, I have introduced a ‘Pass to Platinum’ aspirational tracking system which ranks the amount of progress pupils make according to their target grades.   I have also worked with Curriculum Leaders to ensure their assessment practice is fit for purpose; it is important to ensure that SMART intervention work can be offered to students which will equip them with the skills and knowledge to succeed.  As a former Head of Year for year 7, I also have vast experience of overseeing the transition process and working alongside primary partners in Year 5 and 6.

I have a wide variety of leadership experience, having taught in national and international contexts, and in both deprived and privileged school settings.  I am a former Curriculum Leader for History and I have also served as a Head of Sixth Form.  In these roles I have worked to raise standards by advising diverse curriculum departments on improvements to Teaching & Learning and behaviour for learning.  I also have experience of mentoring ITT students to encourage them to reflect over how to improve their professional practice.  Last year I completed a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Management, and this experience has given me the skills and knowledge to help build capacity within and across organisations.

 

Suzannah Reeves SLE

Suzannah is Director for Quality and Monitoring at Oldham Sixth Form College.

Suzannah is member of the SLT at OSFC.  She has been in her current role for 4 years and has a breadth of experience both prior to and alongside her work in this role, including extensive strategic leadership experience through her Chair of Governor roles in both the primary and secondary sectors.

Suzannah has expertise in a range of areas including quality improvement, curriculum planning design, governance and leadership.

The impact of Suzannah’s work can be seen through her leadership support and challenge at the schools where she is Chair of Governors and through developments at OSFC.  Having come through the route of Head of Humanities at OSFC and has an excellent insight into the challenges faced by curriculum leaders.  She has led the restructure of the Curriculum Area Leader role at OSFC and the impact of this is seen in the level of ownership and accountability taken by colleagues in these roles, including effective scrutiny of data and clarity and improved practice in respect of performance management.  Suzannah has an analytical approach, basing judgements on evidence from a range of sources and she understands the need for contextual information.  She is transparent with her colleagues and is never afraid to have difficult conversations to ensure action is taken to improve outcomes for students.

 

 

Katie Dallender SLE

I am currently Assistant Headteacher (School Improvement and CPD) at The Blue Coat School. This role includes responsibility for the development of all staff through a commitment to progressive teaching and learning and personalised CPD.  I am also the Induction Tutor for NQT’s and oversee the developmental approach to induction during the NQT year.

I began teaching at Trinity High School in Manchester, where I quickly gained responsibility, firstly for the whole school most able provision, and then as Second in the Religious Studies Department. I joined Blue Coat in 2014 as Head of Religious Studies, during the past three years the department has been awarded the REQM Gold Award, and been recognised as outstanding at the recent SIAMS inspection in December 2016 – both for the quality of the curriculum and the leadership of the department.

I have delivered training on Teaching and Learning in Secondary Schools for teachers, trainees and University lecturers through partnerships with MMU and The University of Manchester. I have also delivered training on assessment in Religious Studies at national conferences. I am an assessor for the Religious Education Quality Mark (REQM) and have written numerous articles on teaching, learning and assessment in RS which have been published in RE Today Magazine. I have significant experience of leading a team, managing change and facilitating personalised professional development.

 

Maxine Coates SLE

Maxine is currently Assistant Headteacher (Induction) at Blessed John Henry Newman RC College with a remit for the development of new colleagues and ITE provision. She has developed the NQT/ITE provision for the College over the past three years, working closely with various Higher Education Institutions. She has been responsible for the development of NQTs, ITEs and Teach First Participants in three schools and has successfully implemented staff development programmes to support new colleagues.

Maxine has been teaching for 26 years during which time she has led a successful English Faculty; has been Head of Middle School with a remit for progress and achievement in year 8 and 9; had responsibility for the leadership of Teaching and Learning in three schools, and has led whole school subject reviews with external partners.

She has extensive experience of lesson observation for learning and teaching; coaching and mentoring; ITE Programmes; NQT development; managing change, and staff development.
